1972 Fiat 500 Giardiniera in light blue with brown interiorThe Fiat 500 (Italian:
Cinquecento) is a rear-engined, four-seat, small city car that was manufactured and marketed by Fiat Automobiles from 1957 until 1975 over a single generation in two-door saloon and two-door station wagon body styles.
Launched as the Nuova (new) 500 in July 1957, as a successor to the 500 'Topolino', it was an inexpensive and practical small car.
Measuring 2.
97 meters long, and originally powered by a 479 cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the 500 was 24.
5 centimeters smaller than Fiat's 600, launched two years earlier, and is considered one of the first purpose-designed city cars.
Despite its very small size, the 500 proved to be an enormously practical vehicle with large sales throughout Europe.
Besides the two-door coupe, it was also available as the 'Giardiniera' estate; this variant featured the standard engine laid on its side, the wheelbase lengthened by 10 cm to provide a more convenient rear seat, a full-length sunroof and larger brakes from the Fiat 600.
The 500 Giardiniera estate version of the Fiat 500 is the longest running model.
The engine is laid under the floor of the boot to create a flat loading surface.
The roof on this model also stretches all the way to the rear, not stopping above the driver and front passenger as it does in other models of the same period.
The Giardiniera also features 'suicide doors' and was the only model to continue to use this door type into the 1970s.
In 1966 production was transferred to Desio where the Giardiniera was built by Fiat subsidiary Autobianchi under their marque from 1968 to 1977.
The Fiat 500 Giardiniera which we are presenting here today is a lovely example of the classic Italian city car.
It lived in a beautiful collection in Hasselt who are selling their collection due to family reasons.
As true petrolheads they restored their cars themselves.
This Fiat 500, in a beautiful light blue, is the first car out of the collection.
She presents very well with no known rust.
When you open her suicide doors you will find a lovely interior that has been refinished in fine brown quilted leather throughout.
The looks reflect the quality of the mechanicals of this Giardiniera.
It truly is a great running and driving example with its 479 CC engine and non-synchro gearbox.
The car comes with all of the correct documents and Belgian registration.
